Frequently Asked Questions
Are waterproof foam mats safe for babies?
Most waterproof foam mats made from XPE or similar closed-cell materials are non-toxic and designed for baby use; check product labels for BPA-free and non-toxic statements. Keep mats clean and supervise younger babies during play.
Can I put a fabric play mat in the washing machine after paint spills?
If a mat is labeled machine washable, launder according to the manufacturer’s instructions — use a gentle cycle and low heat. For heavy paint or glue, wipe first to remove excess, then launder. Waterproof foam mats should be wiped, not machine-washed.
How thick should a mat be to protect against toddler falls?
For everyday protection, 0.4–1.0 cm (about 0.15–0.4 inch) of foam plus a soft cover provides adequate cushioning for most toddlers. If your child is very active or you want extra padding, choose thicker, layered mats or consider adding a secondary pad.
